Newscenter Media News World number two and five-time Grand Slam winner Iga Swiatek has agreed to a one-month suspension following a positive test for a banned substance.
The 23-year-old French Open champion tested positive for trimetazidine (TMZ), a heart medication, in an out-of-competition sample taken in August 2024 while she was ranked world number one.
The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) determined that the positive test resulted from contamination in a regulated, over-the-counter melatonin product, made and sold in Poland, which Swiatek used for jet lag and sleep problems.

Given this, her level of fault was assessed as minimal, qualifying for the ‘No Significant Fault or Negligence’ category.
“In the last two-and-a-half months I was subject to strict ITIA proceedings, which confirmed my innocence,” she said on Instagram.
“The only positive doping test in my career, showing unbelievably low level of a banned substance I’ve never heard about before, put everything I’ve worked so hard for my entire life into question.
“Both me and my team had to deal with tremendous stress and anxiety. Now everything has been carefully explained, and with a clean slate I can go back to what I love most,” she added.
