Newscenter Media News Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, working with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), have arrested two men posing as police officers with vehicles loaded with cannabis in Taraba State.
The suspects were caught at Takum Junction in Wukari Local Government Area after troops and NDLEA operatives acted on credible intelligence.
The duo were dressed in mobile police uniforms and were traveling in two Toyota Hilux vehicles filled with bags of cannabis.
Army spokesperson, Lieutenant Umar Mohammed, said investigations revealed that the men were not serving policemen. He identified them as Monday George, a 71-year-old dismissed Assistant Superintendent of Police, and 41-year-old Ezeugo Destiny Uche.
According to him, while George and Uche were arrested, the occupants of the second vehicle abandoned it and ran away when they saw the troops.
“A total of 1,134 blocks of cannabis were recovered from the two vehicles. The suspects and the exhibits have been handed over to the NDLEA office in Wukari for further investigation and prosecution,” Mohammed said.
He added that the drugs were traced to have been loaded from Akure in Ondo State and were on their way to Adamawa before the arrest.
