United States President Donald Trump has confirmed he will visit China in April, following his communication with President Xi Jinping on Wednesday.
In a Truth Social post, Trump said their “excellent telephone conversation” touched on important subjects, particularly Taiwan, the Russia-Ukraine war, and the situation with Iran.
They also discussed trade, airplane engine deliveries, China’s purchase of U.S. oil and gas, and additional agricultural products, including 20 million tons of soybeans in the current season.
President Trump described his relationship with China and his friendship with Xi as “an extremely good one,” with both heads of state committing to keeping it that way.
Trump further expressed optimism that there will be “many positive results” achieved over the next three years of his presidency in relations with Xi and China.
Meanwhile, President Xi has invited his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin to pay an official visit to China “in the first half of this year,” the Kremlin confirmed.
Presidential Aide Yury Ushakov disclosed that the invitation was accepted during a video conference on Wednesday. The dates and details will be agreed separately.
Xi also asked Putin to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders’ Meeting slated for November in the southern Chinese city of Shenzhen.
During their conversation, the leaders agreed to further develop trade and economic ties in energy. Russia is China’s leading supplier of oil and pipeline gas.
Ushakov said Putin and Xi also exchanged views on their countries’ relations with the U.S., which recently invited Russia and China to join President Trump’s Board of Peace.
“Russia and China stand for equal and mutually beneficial cooperation based on the principles of international law and the UN Charter,” Ushakov added.
