Newscenter Media News The Chairman of Calabar Municipality, Mayor James Anam, has sounded the alarm over the growing threat posed by abandoned telecommunication masts across the city.
DAILY POST reports that some officials the masts have already collapsed, injuring residents and destroying multi-million Naira properties.
Of particular concern is a 20-year-old abandoned mast behind the Cross River State Headquarters of the Nigerian Correctional Service along IBB Way.
With the rainy season approaching, authorities fear imminent disaster.
The council has given the owner a 21-day ultimatum to remove it or face the consequences.
In March last year, a telecom mast belonging to a microfinance firm in Calabar collapsed and destroyed the N35 million residence of Rev Evans Uwaoma Obiokor, a minister of the Methodist Church, rendering his family homeless.
