More revelations have continued to emerge after the assassination of Mr Igwe Akuma Akwu, the former President-General of National Association of Ohafia Students, NAOS, on January 2, 2026.
Akwu, a youth and an indigene of Ndi Uma compound of Okon-Aku, Ohafia LGA of Abia State was shot dead on Friday, 2nd January by unknown gunmen, a development that sparked fury and destruction of many property in the community.
Abia State Police Command in a statement after the incident, also said it arrested some suspects and had sent two tactical teams to restore order in the community.
But records from some posts made by late Igwe Akuma Akwu on December 30, 2025 on social media, have shown that the former President-General actually alerted the government and security agencies that his life and those of his people were under threat.
In the post he made on December 30, 2025, three days before his death, Igwe Akuma Akwu cried out that he was mercilessly beaten by some thugs working for an individual, in January 2025.
He also lamented that his Toyota Corolla car was set ablaze on October 28, 2025 by a group allegedly boasting connection and control of government.
In the same post, he lamented that his five-year-old cousin was missing after an attack, before finally raising the alarm that his life may be under threat as a result of the publication.
Meanwhile, some human rights groups, traditional institutions and other youth groups have appealed for calm, with calls for thorough investigation into the matter.
In a strongly-worded press release on Sunday, the Executive Director of Foundation for Environmental Rights Advocacy & Development, FENRAD, Nelson Nnanna Nwafor demanded the arrest and prosecution of those involved in the killing, among other demands.
“We call for a review of the security response mechanism to reported threats and early warning signals to prevent recurrence of similar tragedies.
“FENRAD also demands intentional accountability for any lapses or negligence that may have contributed to the failure to protect the deceased”, Nwafor said.
