Algerian captain, Riyad Mahrez has made an honest confession following his side’s AFCON quarter-final defeat to Nigeria on Saturday.
The former Manchester City winger admitted that the Super Eagles were stronger and better than the Desert Foxes during the encounter.
Speaking at his post-match interview after the game, Mahrez said: “We were a little late in our positioning, and perhaps we lacked balance.
“We faced a very strong team, and we did not manage to keep possession of the ball in the first half in a way that would allow us to threaten them.
“Ultimately, this is the truth; they were better than us, and that is part of football. We must now continue to work and move forward.
“We did everything we could to qualify, but we came up against a stronger team, and this happens in football.”
Mahrez was unable to help Algeria as two goals from Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams gave Nigeria a 2-0 win.
