The Benue State Police Command has confirmed the discovery of suspected remains believed to belong to a police inspector earlier declared missing in Guma Local Government Area of the state.
The case is linked to Inspector Mohammed Yakubu of the 13 Police Mobile Force (PMF), attached to OPS Zenda Joint Task Force, who reportedly disappeared on June 13, 2025, at Tse Keleke, about 10 kilometres from Daudu.
Security sources disclosed that on December 18, at approximately 9:30 a.m., actionable intelligence led operatives to a decomposed body spotted in a nearby bush close to where the officer was last seen.
Following the report, a combined security and emergency response team made up of the ACPOL Metro Makurdi, DPO Daudu, police medical officers, State Intelligence Service (SIS) operatives, personnel of the 13 PMF, OPS Zenda JTF, Counter-Terrorism Unit (CTU), and Benue State Civil Protection Guards was deployed to the location.
The team recovered skeletal remains from the site and transported them to the 13 PMF base for further procedures.
Police authorities stated that after due consultations and completion of required formalities, the remains would be handed over to the deceased officer’s family for a proper burial.
The Benue State Police Command noted that the recovery brings an end to the prolonged missing-in-action case involving the inspector.
