The Edo State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, said no fewer than 31 suspected drug traffickers were arrested by its operatives in the month of December, 2025.
The NDLEA Commander in the State, Dr Mitchell Ofoyeju said the suspects were arrested with over 2,000 kilogrammes of narcotics within the period.
Ofoyeju said the arrested suspects were made up of 20 males and 11 females.
He also said that five vehicles used in drug trafficking were seized by the Command in the period under review.
“In the month of December, a total of 31 suspected drug traffickers were apprehended during various raids on drug flashpoints across the state. The suspects arrested comprised 20 males and 11 females.
“The Command also seized 2,011 kilograms of drug exhibits, including 1,020 kilograms of cannabis, 0.1399 kg of psychotropic substance, and 0.0003 kg of methamphetamine.”
“Vehicles linked to drug trafficking activities were also impounded. These include ash-coloured Honda Accords bearing registration numbers ABC 678 KK (Abuja) and GGE 772 FB (Lagos); a gold Toyota Camry ABJ 927 BG (Abuja); a black Toyota Camry Voltron BWR 622 AW (Abuja); and a silver Toyota Camry MUS 169 GN (Lagos)”, said.
Ofoyeju, added that the Command’s prosecution unit secured two convictions during the month while eight new cases have been charged to.
He also added that 104 cases are currently pending at the Federal High Court in Benin City.
The Edo State NDLEA boss said on the drug demand reduction front, 24 clients, comprising 15 males and 9 females were counselled and subsequently reunited with their families while an additional 11 individuals are undergoing rehabilitation.
“The unit also conducted three sensitisation programmes aimed at reducing drug abuse awareness in the community”, added.
He opined that the achievements recorded within the period was a testament that the command’s fight against drug trafficking and abuse is yielding substantial results.
Ofoyeju reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to eradicating drug trafficking cartels within Edo State through concerted efforts and intensified operations.
