Iran heads to Russia as nuclear talks with US heat up

Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araqchi, is off to Russia this week ahead of a planned second round of nuclear talks between Tehran and the United States.

The nuclear talks are aimed at resolving Iran’s decades-long nuclear stand-off with the US.

This comes after Araqchi and US President Donald Trump’s Middle East envoy, Steve Witkoff, held talks in Oman on Saturday.

Both parties described the talks in Oman as positive.

However, the second round of nuclear talks between Tehran and Washington will be held in Muscat, Oman, on Saturday, Iran’s state news agency IRNA quoted Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei as saying on Monday.

President Trump has already warned that if diplomacy fails, Iran would be in “great danger and can’t have a nuclear weapon.”
