The Kano State Police Command has successfully traced the parents of a missing teenager found in Doguwa Local Government Area of Kano State and reunited him with his family after approximately 13 years of separation.
In a statement issued on Monday and signed by CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the Police Public Relations Officer, the Command said the development followed a follow-up investigation after the teenager was earlier discovered in Dadin Kowa village, Doguwa LGA.
The police explained that the boy, who initially claimed to be a Spanish national named “Alex Ansol,” was later identified through investigation as 16-year-old Yusuf Sabiu.
According to the Command, “thorough investigation revealed that the teenager is Yusuf Sabiu, aged 16 years.”
His parents were later traced and identified as Saminu Yusuf, 44, from Lere Local Government Area of Kaduna State, his father, and Habiba Alhassan Adam, 35, from Plateau State, his mother.
The statement further revealed that the parents had been separated for over 13 years, a situation the police said contributed to the child’s prolonged separation from his family.
Yusuf Sabiu was officially handed over to his parents at the Doguwa Police Division in Kano State through the Divisional Police Officer.
The Command expressed appreciation to journalists, media houses, and social media users for sharing the initial report, stating that their support helped expedite the tracing process.
It added that “the swift circulation of the information played a key role in tracing the family and achieving this positive outcome.”
The police also used the opportunity to advise parents and guardians to report missing persons immediately to the nearest police station, stressing that prompt action improves the chances of recovery.
They further urged separated or divorced parents to maintain communication regarding the welfare of their children, noting that a stable support system helps protect children from danger and wandering.
