Ogun State governor, Dapo Abiodun, has asserted that Nigeria’s diversity should be the source of its strength and unity, not division.
Abiodun stated this during the Special Jumat service to mark the 2026 Ahmed Forces Remembrance day celebration, held at the Central Mosque, Kobiti, Abeokuta.
He added that the current security realities reminded them that peace is never accidental, rather it’s sustained through sacrifice, vigilance and unity.
The governor who was represented by his Deputy, Noimot Salako-Oyedele emphasized that Nigeria is worth protecting together, urging all to reject violence, embrace dialogue, promote tolerance and support lawful efforts to secure the nation.
He said, “The Amed Forces Remembrance Day reminds us that the peace we enjoy was secured at a great cost.
“Our fallen heroes stood between our nation and chaos, serving Nigeria, without regards to tribe, religion or region, they served one nation under one flag, bound by solemn oath, their sacrifice continues to unite us as one people.”
The governor stressed that his administration remained committed to supporting the welfare and dignity of the families of fallen heroes, and applauded the Legion for its dedication to preserving the memory of fallen heroes, advocating for their families, as well as individuals and organizations supporting the noble cause.
Abiodun in the same vein appreciated President Bola Tinubu for his leadership, continued commitment to national unity and security, maintaining that under his leadership, deliberate efforts are being made to strengthen the armed forces, improve the welfare of security personnel and confront the complex security challenges facing the country.
In his sermon, Mufasi of Egbaland, Alhaji Abdulai Odaranile, stated that security of lives and properties is very important in every nation and any without adequate security is prone to slavery.
He bemoaned the fact that while some of those tasked with defending the nation lost their lives in the process, God is pleased with everyone who unites to offer prayers to those who gave their lives for the country and has a means of consoling the families of the deceased.
Speaking on behalf of the Royal fathers at the Service, Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, said the issue of security requires the efforts of everyone in curbing it, enjoining the Nigerian military to face the issue squarely and not involve in coup plotting.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Baba Adinni of Egbaland and former Military Administrator, Captain Abdulrasheed Raji, prayed that God will continue to direct the path of the president and governors with a view to leading the country to the right path.
