The Nigeria Women Football League, NWFL, has reacted to the crowd trouble in the matchday five fixture between Ibom Angels and Bayelsa Queens.
DAILY POST reports that the supporters of Ibom Angels unlawfully invaded the pitch at the conclusion of the match and physically attacked players and officials of Bayelsa Queens at the Uyo Township Stadium on Wednesday.
The NWFL fined Ibom Angels N2.5 million with a stadium ban on their club supporters for the next three home matches.
The league’s Chief Operating Officer Modupe Shabi said the decisive action underscored the league’s commitment to maintaining discipline and safeguarding all participants.
“The safety of players, officials and match personnel is non-negotiable,” Shabi stated after the verdict on the incident.
“What occurred in Uyo represents a serious breach of our regulations and the values of the NWFL. We will take stiffer actions against any club whose supporters engage in violence or conduct capable of bringing the league into disrepute.”
