Activist lawyer, Maduabuchi Idam, has called on President Bola Tinubu to directly address the issue of tax reform bill.
Idam said the silence of the president indicates that the executives engage in “mafia practice.”
A member of the House of Representatives, Abdulsamad Dasuki had claimed that the bill assented to by Tinubu was different from the one the National Assembly passed.
Reacting, the activist lawyer said: “There must be an explanation as to how a Bill duly passed by the National Assembly and transmitted to the President for assent could, after receiving presidential assent, differ from the version passed by the National Assembly.
“Since the allegation by Hon. Abdulsamad Dasuki was made on the floor of the House of Representatives, I expected a direct statement by the President addressing the issue, sadly the presidency has choosing silence.
“Why would the executive if true engage in such mafia practice? Noting that it has a controlled National Assembly that would not say no to it despite what was presented to it?
“If correct, such an unsavory exercise would set a dangerous precedent for President Tinubu’s tenure.
“The Attorney-General of the Federation should be urged to take responsibility and provide Nigerians with a full explanation on this matter.
“Alternatively, the National Assembly should consider repealing the Act pending the outcome of investigations.”
