Kwara State government has reaffirmed its commitment to rescuing victims kidnapped during the February 3 attack on Woro community in Kaima Local Government Area of the state.
The Commissioner for Communications, Bolanle Olukoju, confirmed this in a statement issued in Ilorin on Saturday.
She said the government was deeply concerned about a disturbing video released by terrorists, allegedly showing some victims taken during the attack.
Olukoju said officials were working with security agencies and stakeholders to analyze the footage and verify the identities of those shown.
“The Kwara Government is deeply concerned. Our thoughts are with affected families, and we reaffirm our commitment to securing the safe return of all victims.
“We acknowledge the anxiety this footage may cause. Security agencies are carefully analyzing the video to establish the identities of those shown,” she said.
She noted that varying accounts had emerged regarding the number of abducted persons since the incident.
“For this reason, neither the state government nor security agencies have announced a definitive figure,” she said.
According to her, the government’s priority remains the safe rescue of all affected citizens and ensuring perpetrators face justice.
Olukoju said the government had engaged Woro community leaders to help identify individuals seen in the footage.
She confirmed that a few persons had been identified as Woro residents, while others remained unaccounted for.
According to her, some initially reported missing have reunited with families, while others temporarily relocated to neighbouring communities, including Wawa and New Bussa in Niger.
She added that the response committee, led by Ahmed Ibn Muhammed, continues coordinating security, humanitarian support and efforts to return displaced persons safely.
“We assure the public that verified updates will be provided through proper coordination with security and community leaders.
“We urge residents to remain calm, avoid spreading unverified information, and continue cooperating with authorities,” Olukoju said.
